Inconsistencies when receiving Midi
| AndH123 | Posted on Thu 04 Apr 2024, 08:39 PM Hi,I often find that when I turn on the Mask 1, it does not receive incoming midi data. This is usually rectified after unplugging the power supply and powering off and then replugging the PS and powering on. However, last night it took me abt 5 cycles of doing this until it started to receive midi normally again. Is this quirk something the company plans on rectifying anytime soon? It's not the end of the world, but would definitely like to see it solved. |

Avi F![]() | Posted on Sat 06 Apr 2024, 03:46 PM I have my faderfox mx12 sometimes not register prg change from the mask 1 but i found a "hack" that works every time. I forgot to mention this here but yes. I had a similar issue until maybe a couple weeks ago I discovered the following. Basically after the mx12 power is on already, I then turn on mask 1 power then immediately press a button on mx12 i have registered to program change (preset switch) and it works . There were times before when it would actually, sometimes, not send midi maybe it's recieve I don't know the technicals but. I know midi ccs and prg changes works as expected, after doing that right after powering mask 1 on. Before that I was unplugging and re plugging wires etc in different orders . The trick for me that always works is program changing patch on the synth right after powering mask 1 on. Funnily enough I am getting more used to not using the controller surface every time when I play. I mainly use it for designing sounds faster. |

| luc sauvage | Posted on Sat 29 Nov 2025, 03:38 PM I have a Mask 1 Ex and I confirm what Avi F says. I was also struggling to make the device receive MIDI notes but " The trick for me that always works is program changing patch on the synth right after powering mask 1 on." worked also for me, so I guess it is a bug. |
Avi F![]() | Posted on Sat 29 Nov 2025, 11:08 PM Apologies, as somehow I did not see the suggestion made, to try a shorter cable! I can try tomorrow, i do have lots of shorter cables. I haven't been using my mx12 as much with mask1 as recently, but I still do use it if i want to create a random sound by myself, or play with the arpeggiator, actually that is for me the most fun part of that. Currently I have been using the mx12 a lot more with my argon8m because of my space in my synth setup, I kind of had to change where some of my gear goes. |
| luc sauvage | Posted on Sun 30 Nov 2025, 01:37 PM @Avi FI tried a shorter cable but nothing changed, what made it work was your suggestion to change program right after turning the Mask 1 Ex Synth on. Then the MIDI in starts working. |
Avi F![]() | Posted on Sun 30 Nov 2025, 08:53 PM Ah I see. I am glad that method worked for you. As for me, I just tried again, quickly, and a shorter cable actually did turn out to respond with cc/pc, [so far] compared to the longer one I was using. I have both Hosa and the steel ended ones; probably 2-3 feet long. The longer ones I have are nearly 10 feet, because I have a big stand and thought I needed a bigger cable [I didn't 😂]. Midi [and I am by no means knowledgeable on this other than from my own past personal experiments with midi on my other gear] maybe communicates different when the midi controller is different, the cable is different etc. I am not sure if that situation described is a bug, or a quirk of midi itself. If I notice this happening again, Ill try to remember and post it here. Update, later today I tried turning the midi cc controller off then booted up mask1 again after first turning the mx12 back on again, and waited 5-10 seconds, then midi cc on the controller did not show changes this time. But if i engage any cc or pc just after turning on the mask1, [like 1-3 seconds or so] from the controller, the midi is always responding as desired. |
| stark audio | Posted on Sun 11 Jan 2026, 04:03 PM I also have seen the issue where I will power up the Mask1 and it will fail to respond to midi note in (I use DIN midi.)Power cycling the unit solves the problem. The next time it happens I will test the "send a program change" option. I haven't found a way to reproduce the problem however, it's intermittent. |
