persistent noise issue w/ fx units
| AndH123 | Hi, I have noticed a persistent simultaneously high and low pitched noise coming from my mask 1 any time I plug into an unbalanced FX unit or pedal, whether I use TS or TRS cables. It is not a ground hum problem because if I go direct into my balanced mixer ins, the noise is fine. A hum eliminator box reduces it quite a bit, but would love to be able to get around this entirely. |
KODAMO![]() | Hi, If none of your gear except Mask1 connects to Earth (battery or two-prong power supply) you should be fine. Problems usually arise when multiple devices are earthed, because their ground is connected to earth so you suddently create a ground loop (note that ground loops does not necessarily means hum, it can be any noise - high pitched noise, "digital" noise, hum...) I can suggest a few options : - Use an audio isolator if you really need unbalanced gear - Ensure only 1 device in your audio chain connects to earth (Mask1 already does, so everything else must not use it) - Use only balanced gear Mask1 by itself does not create noise, but as soon as you introduce unbalanced gear in the setup anything weird can happen. Guitar/Bass FX pedals can be problematic with synths due to that. |
