EssenceFM - one shot LFO
| jbowman | Is there a way to make the LFO only play one cycle? The reason I am interested is that you could then use bit reduced LFO shapes to mimic the low resolution envelopes of older FM synths. Possibly there is another way of achieving this that I am not thinking of (it would be cool to have a way to reduce the resolution of the envelopes if that were possible). |
KODAMO![]() | You can use LFO decay and adjust decay length/LFO speed so that it plays only one cycle |
| jbowman | Thanks for the response! I can't see how to get to LFO decay on the EssenceFM. I know you have it on the Mask1. I'm away from the EFM at the moment but thinking of some work arounds, maybe in the modmatrix I can use an envelope to reduce the LFO speed to zero after it has completed one cycle. I only need two operators for my sound, so possibly I can fade out the operator whose envelope is being simulated by the LFO in favour of another operator and time the fade so it happens after one cycle. |
| pandar1 | I checked the online manual and there is no lfo decay param in the lfo page... the only solution I see is what you proposed, mod matrix with lfo am depth as target |
KODAMO![]() | You are right sorry. We should definitely add LFO decay like on the Mask1. |
| jbowman | 👍 |
Colin Muir Dorward![]() | +1 for LFO decay :) |
| pandar1 | I think it would be beneficial to include both a "single cycle" flag and the decay option. While it's possible to emulate a single cycle using decay, the gradual slope of the decay means it’s not exactly the same as a precise, single cycle. Adding this flag shouldn't be too difficult, whereas implementing decay is more complex. If possible, I’d suggest including both options. |
| jbowman | Agreed, both is better if possible. Actually, for the use I had in mind (using the LFO as an operator's amplitude envelope) there is already a kind of decay, as it seems the LFO assignment in the mod matrix is governed by the operator's actual envelope, i.e. you can set the operator's amplitude envelope so it fades out the LFO envelope after one cycle. |
| eisblau | Keytrigger LFO and one shot LFO are very similar. Both start on Keytrigger, but one shot LFO ends after 1 cycle. I am for both options instead of just LFO decay. :) |
