Tempo-synced operator frequency
Colin Muir Dorward![]() | Let's face it, EFM needs more ways to wub. There is still quite a bit of room on the "base" operator page. What if there was another button under "fixed" called "sync", a bit like on the LFO? I propose three states: off, on (no key retrigger), on (key retrigger). The multiplier controls would continue to work as-is, with the exception that quartertones becomes the first decimal place, and fine becomes second decimal of the multiplier. This would allow us to use operators for funky tempo-sync wobble-makers. Also, you could create tuning systems that were tempo-linked, so for example the sub bass period would always be in phase with the beat... cool! I think this idea may have been proposed here before. Does anybody know of any FM synths that offer this capability? |
KODAMO![]() | MIDI Tempo isn't a good source for syncing operator frequency because it's very jittery. MIDI never sends an exact tempo, it is just "ticks" and the receiving synth has to calculate a tempo from that, that make it really bad although for LFO it works because it's not very timing sensitive |
Colin Muir Dorward![]() | Oh that's interesting, thanks for sharing! The easy solution is just to have a field for manual tempo entry, instead. For dynamic tempo changes, the user could map it to a midi CC in the mod matrix. This could also be used for tempo-linked envelopes :) |
