Cannot use USB midi and DIN midi at same time
NC Manson | Not sure if this is a bug report or whether I am doing something wrong - i have the Essence FM connected to PC via the USB at the rear (not the host on the front) - i can send MIDI notes from DAW no problem, but if I attach a DIN midi cable in, it either gives me the DIN input, or the USB, but not both (actually, sometimes it does for a couple of notes, but then stops). I can't see a setting in the MIDI section to select both inputs. Is it possible to do so? |
KODAMO | Are you sure your DAW is correctly configured? The EssenceFM takes both inputs and merges them. Check that there is no MIDI feedbacks if you also have output connected. Try disabling MIDI clock if you send it, also check that you are not sending sysex or other messages that could create issues if they are sent on both ports. |
| NC Manson | Thanks - i have checked FL studio - the midi sync output is off, the Essence input ports and output ports are different. The external keyboards are sending note info (not sysex or program change etc). THe situation seems to be (1) DIN input + front USB host input - works - notes from both inputs (2) Rear USB from DAW + front USB host input - works - notes from both (3) DIN input + USB from DAW - does not work When the DAW output is working, if I then connect the DIN cable and play a note, it stops the DAW signal - removing the cable doesn't re-enable it, I have to switch the unit off and on, then the DAW signal gets through again. Have tried it in both FL studio and Reaper, same results. |
| KODAMO | Which keyboard are you using? Can you plug it into your computer and look at the raw MIDI data it sends? (with a MIDI software like MIDI-OX which is great for that purpose). Maybe clock or active sensing could be an issue. Try with another keyboard to see if the behavior is the same. In the meantime I suggest using only one port at a time |
